What is Satsang?

Satsang is a get together to deepen our practice and have a good time.

The evening starts with a period of silent group meditation--20-30 minutes. It is very energizing to sit in meditation with a group, and can really help deepen a personal practice, or begin one.

Following the meditation, we chant. We use harmonium, drums, tambourines, and rhythm instruments--that all are invited to play-- as we sing. Chanting is call and response, with a book to follow the words. If you enjoy chanting, or always wanted to try, come and join us! No previous experience is necessary. Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion, is a powerful and enjoyable part of a yoga practice.

The final portion of the evening is a talk on yoga. Topics for the talks relate to the philosophy of yoga as found in the Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, and Swami Sivananda’s guidelines for advancing our yoga practice--including eating & food, meditation, serving others, tips for daily living, along with countless others. Study is also an integral part of yoga.

   

There is no cost for Satsang. There will be a basket for free will donations of food stuffs or money all to be given to FISH, our local food pantry, and to Immanuel Lutheran Church for the generous use of the space.
